About the Position
The successful candidate will be based at the AIMS Research and Innovation Centre (AIMS RIC) in Kigali, Rwanda, while maintaining strong ties with the University of Tübingen in Germany.
This Chair aims to:
• Strengthen research capacity in mathematical sciences across Africa.
• Foster scientific collaboration between AIMS and the University of Tübingen.
• Support interdisciplinary research that applies machine learning to a broad spectrum of scientific challenges, from natural to social sciences.
This initiative is part of the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) Excellence Strategy, and is a model for international scientific exchange, capacity building, and collaborative research.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates will lead innovative research in machine learning for science, while contributing to the development of AIMS’ research and academic activities. Responsibilities include:
• Leading a high-quality research program.
• Supervising postdoctoral fellows, PhD, and master’s students.
• Teaching and developing courses at AIMS Centres.
• Organizing and participating in scientific conferences and public engagement.
• Publishing in top-tier journals and disseminating research findings through various channels.
• Strengthening academic collaboration between AIMS and the University of Tübingen through joint projects and co-supervision of trainees.
What the Fellowship Offers
The AIMS – Tübingen Junior Research Chair position includes:
